The other day, when I posted about the CHI Massage Machine I ordered, I didn't say that I was unsure how I'd pay for it when the credit card bill arrived. I knew somehow I'd pay for it - just wasn't clear.

Well, this morning (at 3:30am), I am still on the computer, finishing some "work" and I got an email saying I had an order. PTL, it was one of my MOST favorite Rosaries that sold. And, after I ship it in the morning...and pay for the postage and insurance, I will have ALMOST EXACTLY the amount of $$$ left to pay for the machine.

I will probably have enough left over to buy an Iced Coffee!! God is good.

Now Being Served - What's Cooking Today?

Lastnight, while dinner was finishing, I assembled this easy Egg Strata - to make this morning, for breakfast...but, hubby had to go into work early this morning. So...it will be our late morning BRUNCH, when he gets home. The recipe was in the Southern Living Magazine that came in the mail yesterday. Sounded yummy and I had everything I needed, even the wine. It reminds me of a Cheese Fondue, but made into an Egg-y Breakfast, that is so easy. Enjoy!

Creamy Egg Strata

YIELD: Makes 8 to 10 servings

HANDS-ON:35 Minutes

TOTAL:10 Hours, 10 Minutes

COURSE: Breakfast/Brunch, Casseroles, Main Dishes

Ingredients

1/2 (16-oz.) French bread loaf, cubed (about 5 cups)
6 tablespoons butter, divided
2 cups (8 oz.) shredded Swiss cheese
1/2 cup freshly grated Parmesan cheese
1/3 cup chopped onion
1 teaspoon minced garlic
3 tablespoons all-purpose flour
1 1/2 cups chicken broth
3/4 cup dry white wine
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon freshly ground pepper
1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
1/2 cup sour cream
8 large eggs, lightly beaten
Garnish: chopped fresh chives

Preparation

1. Place bread cubes in a well-buttered 13- x 9-inch baking dish. Melt 3 Tbsp. butter, and drizzle over bread cubes. Sprinkle with cheeses.
2. Melt remaining 3 Tbsp. butter in a medium saucepan over medium heat; add onion and garlic. Sauté 2 to 3 minutes or until tender. Whisk in flour until smooth; cook, whisking constantly, 2 to 3 minutes or until lightly browned. Whisk in broth and next 4 ingredients until blended. Bring mixture to a boil; reduce heat to medium-low, and simmer, stirring occasionally, 15 minutes or until thickened. Remove from heat. Stir in sour cream. Add salt and pepper to taste.
3. Gradually whisk about one-fourth of hot sour cream mixture into eggs; add egg mixture to remaining sour cream mixture, whisking constantly. Pour mixture over cheese in baking dish. Cover with plastic wrap, and chill 8 to 24 hours.
4. Let strata stand at room temperature 1 hour. Preheat oven to 350°. Remove plastic wrap, and bake 30-45 minutes, until set, browned & bubbly. Serve immediately.

Have you heard about the CHI MACHINE?

Have you ever tried the CHI MACHINE?

A while back, I saw the Doctor's Show, where the doctors actually tried out the CHI MACHINE...and I've thought about it for a while now.

I already go for regular massages and believe me, they have really helped. They help relieve any swelling in my ankles from sitting and making jewelry, crocheting or doing computer work for too long. The massages have helped my asthma and allergies, too. Muscle aches and pains have been alleviated through massage and stress has also been relieved.

BUT...I keep thinking, the little kinks and twists we all get, I ought to be able to take care of myself. I also don't do alot of walking and never do bike riding - since I've had 9 surgeries on my knee and was to have had a knee replacement about 10 years ago. I'm in great shape, but always afraid of falling. I've done that, too...and then there was that crazy old neighbor who attacked me with his riding tractor several years ago. Needless to say, I'm also getting older - aren't we all?

So....here's the CHI MACHINE and a link so that you can read about all it's "GLORIES", too.

I went ahead and ordered one...and it should be here sometime in the next week, I would guess. I'll let you know how it goes.

Now Being Served...

With a NEW NAME - "Now Being Served" and a NEW RECIPE, I begin the New Year with my first recipe. What better place to start than with a Dessert Recipe?!? It's one of my Favorite Cheese Cake Recipes. It's easy and ohhhhhh, so yummy!

BLACK FOREST CHEESECAKE

CRUST:

1pkg Oreos, crushed

2/3c butter, melted

Blend together crushed cookies and melted butter. Press into bottom of a 9 or 10 inch springform pan. Chill for about 15 minutes.

FILLING:

4pkg cream cheese, softened

1 1/3c sugar

4 eggs

1t almond extract

4-3.5oz bars of Lindt Excellence dark chocolate

TOPPING:

1 can cherry pie filling

Cream sugar, cream cheese and almond extract. Add eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition. Blend in melted chocolate. Pour into prepared crust. Bake at 350 degrees for approximately 50 minutes. Let set in oven with door partially ajar for 1 hour to cool after baking. Refrigerate for at least 8 hours. Top with cherry pie filling before serving.

Shawls and Afghans in My Future!

I have been crocheting this winter! I made a couple of Special-Ordered Prayer Shawls in December (the photo above is from 1 of the patterns I used). I made a Special-Ordered Afghan, too.

Then, I began crocheting (while on Christmas vacation away) #1 - Snowfall at Midnight Afghan above photo collage (top right). I used a Q hook and 3 strands of yarn - 1 of White & 2 Blue variegated for the center and 3 strands of White for the outside edges of each 6-sided block. Then, 3 strands of white were used to attach the blocks together in rows...5 of 10 blocks and 4 of 9 blocks. I am now ready to attach the last 2 rows of blocks. And, with 2 strands of Blue Variegated & 1 of White, I will add the edging and this one will be finished.

For the Snowflake Afghan, I will be using a G hook, White Acrylic/Mohair/Sequin yarn for the Snowflakes and Black for the border of each 6-sided block and also to stitch the blocks together. The white blended yarn with sequins will be used for a border. Each block measures about 10".

Then...I have a Flower Garden Crochet Quilt planned. It will have a white base (just like the old-fashioned fabric quilts of olden times)...with flowers - 13 of them done in different colors. Mine will all have a yellow center, with the solid portion around the center each done in a different color. Finally, the ombre portion of each flower will be finished in 13 different colors. There are over 400, 2 3/4" 6-sided motifs that make up this afghan...all crocheted with G hook. While the little motifs are easy enough to crochet - with their popcorn stitch floral centers - it's the joining of all of the motifs that I figure will consume most of the time making this afghan - but I'm up for the challenge.

Always Designing...

I have so many ideas floating around in my head - on what to share with you in my first post of 2012...it's difficult to decide on just one thing...so, I will be sharing a few of the ideas!

Do you set New Year's Resolutions?

I've seen resolutions similar to the one in this comic from This Life So Far - Matthew Gonya really is VERY creative in his Comics!!

What I decided to do this year is Pick a Word, a Phrase, something special - to signify what it is that I want to do throughout the year...

And - that short phrase is...Always Designing!

Every day, throughout 2012, I plan to Always Design something, be it a simple piece of Jewelry, a Rosary, something crocheted - a new Blog design - a new piece of PuppyKids Boutique ComfortWear for the shop or even a new TableTop Design, with the gorgeous China and SilverPlate I've purchased at Antique Shops and Estate Sales. And, since I still have some Design work to complete in my house...that will go on the list as well. I don't think the phrase - ALWAYS DESIGNING - will be too difficult to do on a daily basis. Heck, even doing a Post on my Blog could fit into that category!!

As you can see, I've been hard at work Always Designing, by completing a new Banner for my Blog. I've added a bunch of my favorite background music to my Blog too. I hope you enjoy your visit here.

Well...I have decided to PAINT it again - and the first warm day of Spring - it will be in my Garage, going through another make-over. "Always Designing"...that's what I do! :)

Something else I've been working on ("Always Designing") that I started Christmas week is this lovely SNOWFLAKE AFGHAN!!

Speaking of this lovely Snow at Midnight Afghan - we have a light dusting of snow and a few more flakes flying around - I think I'll get back to the afghan!

Christmas Away - 2011

Did you miss me the past 10 days? We were away - for Christmas.

Nope...I didn't do any Christmas decorating, as we left the Monday before Christmas and returned AFTER Christmas. All my Christmas cooking and baking were done in our cottage on a Pond in Michigan...about 3 hours northwest of Toledo, Ohio.

We were at this place last year - 2010 - for Thanksgiving and stayed in the 2-Bedroom Cottage and this year opted to stay in the 3-Bedroom Cottage - it's bigger and the placement of the fireplace/TV and furniture was better, too.

Two Bedrooms, Kitchen, large Bathroom with Laundry room, Dining Room and Living Room with floor to Loft Ceiling Stone Fireplace were on the FIRST FLOOR!! Sitting area, HUGE Master Bathroom and Master Bedroom...with Deck were on the 2nd floor, which is lofted over the Living Room/Dining Room. There is a deck that goes almost entirely around the cottage...with a Gazebo (screened in) attached to it. All total, there are 3 Cottages - and an Equestrian Farm here. 1 Cottage is rented year-round by a Doctor...the other 2 get rented...frequently.

The first 7 photos are taken from the Cottage Website. All of the rest, beginning with the Christmas Tree were taken by me. I love, as you'll see, taking photos at Daybreak - especially over water. The weeping willow trees made them extra special.

Christmas Story from my Son!

THIS STORY IS DIRECTLY TAKEN FROM AN EMAIL FROM MY SON THIS MORNING...it's his NEW CHRISTMAS STORY.

Hi Mom...

We (he, his wife and dogs) went to a farm to get our Christmas Tree...because they let us bring the dogs along.

Anyway...I realize the next day I can't find my sunglasses...tracing back the day before I thought I had them on my face on our way out to get the tree but I couldn't remember where I may have misplaced them on the way home or later...I was sure I hadn't put them down on a counter at the farm when I paid because we were standing in the middle of the yard when I pulled out my wallet...

A couple days go by and still my sunglasses hadn't turned up (you know how lost things are usually "found" in time)...so as a last resort I call the farm...barely getting out the word sunglasses the guy laughs back, "You're the sunglasses guy, ha ha ha!".

Turns out my sunglasses were tucked in my coat at my neck while we were looking at trees and in the course of pulling one out to look at it the tree "ate" my glasses...there they were hanging in the tree to be found later by another customer! :)

Even funnier is I took a number of pictures of Lindsey and the puppies in front of some of the trees.......and, yep, you guessed it! Looking back on the pictures sure enough one shows my sunglasses hanging on the tree!

PINK Christmas Dreams

MERRY PINK CHRISTMAS EVERYONE!!!
It's getting close now!
Gee, I have so many things to do yet...Next weekend, we'll be saying HELLO to the first of our Christmas friends & family. Here are a few photos from our PINK Christmas!

Isn't the PINKness beautiful? Lots of PINK tulle, ribbon and ornaments!!!

Then I added the angel on top and began hanging ornaments. I have many different shapes and sizes, as well as colors of ornaments on the tree. The other ornaments and trims are PINK ~ 2 different sizes and finishes, GREEN ~ oval shaped, BRONZE ~ 4 different sizes and finishes, GREEN and BRONZE striped ~ round, BRONZE ~ bells, GOLD branches and PINK pearl swags.

Not having a PINK tree skirt, I was forced to be creative. I absolutely LOVE Chenille Bedspreads and happened to have the Perfect PINK one to wrape around the base of the tree. I love the texture and the fringe just happens to be an added bonus.

Changes...to our Home!

Tom and I moved into this house 5 1/2 years ago and LOVE it! It's slightly more than 1700 sq ft, with Living Room, Kitchen (my dream kitchen), Dining Room ~ all in an open concept...a Laundry Room/Pantry, Master Bedroom/Bathroom, Den (guest room) and Office. We have a huge patio that we just love and a garden just about surrounds our home.

These pictures are the Before the Newest Make-Over Began...

There have been many changes throughout the house...and you will begin seeing the photos of those changes after the Holidays!

1. There is no more RED anywhere in the house.
2. The Office, Great Room, Den, Bathrooms, Master Bedroom, Kitchen, Dining Room and Pantry/Laundry Room don't look the same either.
3. Most of the larger pieces of furniture are still here - but the STYLE of everything around them is different.
4. The entire Garden has changed too!

My "Darker Side" Jewelry...

Today, I'd love to share with you the latest items I've been creating in my Studio. I love creating my Romantic, Old-Fashioned, Some Say Victorian Jewelry and yet...I wanted something a bit different - older somehow.

I've found it! Great Brass that has been darkened and aged...making it appear older than it is.

Thus, my From the Darker Side line of Jewelry.

Butterfly Earrings

I've always loved Brass and absolutely LOVE this darker, more antiqued Brass I've found...thus...the Darker Side. It has variations in finish and color, intentionally. It has been hand rubbed twice and finished with a non-toxic lacquer for durability. It is made in the USA and doesn't contain lead, nickel or cadmium.

My darker side allows me to make romantic, Victorian, Gothic Jewelry and Rosaries. Between the DARK Brass and my DARK side - I've named this line of Jewelry ~ From the Darker Side!

Since I began making Rosaries, I've wanted to make a tastefully beautiful Necklace, using a Crucifix, beautiful beads and chain - a Victorian Gothic Necklace...and have come up with this:

Day 11 - Stroll the Shops for Christmas - Laura

I was born and raised in South Carolina. My mom was a homemaker who always had a craft or a project going in some corner of the house, and her restless creativity wandered from sewing Easter dresses for us, making birthday cakes for us and as a business, beading Christmas "Christmon" ornaments for our church Christmas tree, and just about everything in between. Our artistic endeavors were encouraged and celebrated, and personal expression was the norm. We were a multi-generational artisan/crafting family. My great-grandfather was a painter, whose steady hand enabled him to hand pin-stripe cars in the 1920s and 30s. My grandfather was a lapidary and a jeweler, and my mom has taken up the craft as well. She works primarily with wire wrapping, Kumihimo and Swarovski crystals. I started making jewelry in middle school, wearing it myself and selling it to my friends. In college, I took a Jewelry 101 course, which was an introduction to metalworking, and I was fascinated! Having been a tomboy of sorts, I was comfortable using the blow torch, pliers, and power tools to create my projects. "Back then" it was too expensive for me to set up my own shop, so I closed the door on that possibility and continued artistic and business endeavors of different kinds. After starting a family, home-based business opportunities seemed like the best way to augment my income and make a little extra for the grocery store, so I explored several, with varying success.

Almost four years ago, my oldest daughter wanted to make a bracelet for my mom for Christmas. I thought this might be a fun craft for us to enjoy together, so I bought a beginner's set of tools, and the materials to make a three-strand bracelet (I never do anything small!). Once we were done with it, and very pleased with the results, my mind began to wander, and I began to contemplate the possibilities. My daughter soon tired of making jewelry, but I was hooked. Really hooked. I started buying massive amounts of beads, and devoured every jewelry publication I could get my hands on. I spent hours combing Etsy and getting a feel for "what's out there" and started to develop my own sense and direction as far as styles of jewelry that appealed to me.

I started my Etsy shop in May 2008, the day after another artisan told me about the web site. It's been a love affair, a passion, an obsession, and a mania ever since. More recently a nice percentage of my sales have been custom orders, and I've enjoyed intense satisfaction in creating "the one" piece for my customers that they've needed for an outfit, an event, a gift, or for their wedding. I've worked with brides and beauty queens, and with fashion designers to capture that "look" they wanted. I'm having such a blast!! I've found my niche, and I absolutely love what I do!

I create Vintage Style Jewelry and Handmade Glass Beads, (aka Lampwork beads), which I sell in my two Etsy shops, Principessa Jewels and Principessa Glass. I started out making jewelry about 7-8 years ago, with my Mom.... I have used many different things over the years in my designs, my current passion is for Vintage Jewels and all things Vintage Style.

How I came to be a Lampwork Artist was something of an evolutionary process. I stumbled across Lampwork beads while shopping on eBay and fell in love with them! After a bit of trial and error, soon figured out what was a good quality bead and what was a cheap, made in China bead..The good stuff was a bit spendy, so like any crazy, crafty type.. I said.. "I can learn to do this"... found someone who taught classes and off I went... Thousands of dollars later in materials and equipment, I now make my own lampwork beads! I am still enthralled by the process and will continue to make them as long as I am!

I currently live in San Antonio, Texas with my Husband of 21 years and my 17 year old daughter, along with the canine love of my life, Quinn (my trusty stalker, Golden Retriever). We also have an Australian Shepherd named Freyja, who adores my husband and a newly acquired kitten named Nutmeg.

We are two best friends who, after retirement decided we would like to do something with our creative sides. Susan had worked in business marketing/management for 30 years and Sherri worked in that field for 18 years and then social services for 9 years. Sherri became ill while still working and Susan became bored with retirement! We put our heads together and decided we would get out of our rut by doing what we liked, loved and wanted to do...hence, Lollipops and Daisies Children's Boutique was born. Sherri enjoys the design and sewing aspects and Susan prefers designing and crafting so we are a perfect fit (of course we always knew that!).

Our emphasis first and foremost for us individually has been to have fun. Our emphsis for the business is to produce a product that will pass a 'Martha Stewart' inspection, meaning we will do the best we possibly can. We make each item with heart, love and attention to detail.

Our business philosophy is to be unique in our design process making apparel and adornments that are fun and sassy or elegant and classy. We create to promote uniqueness and to show our younger generations that it's perfectly okay to "color outside the lines", "dance like nobody's watching" and to do what you LOVE.

I'm a Canadian living in the United States who wishes she lived in England. I share a home with my husband, Brian, four dogs and three parrots, one of which is my beloved Cockatoo 'Bijou'. It’s a full house and one full of love and at times, comical anecdotes, which bring laughter and joy.

I’ve been a crafty artist in one way or another since I was a child. My Grandma always had something for us kids to do in the form of sewing, knitting, embroidery (and even liquid embroidery) and quilting. My Grandma was a great quilter and I remember sitting around the quilting form in her basement spending hours making sure my stitches were just right. Spending time at Grandma’s was always a treat and one that I always looked forward to. Oh, and she always had ice cream!

In my early thirties I took up Folk Art painting and learned various brush strokes, skills and techniques from a very talented teacher over the course of three or four years. I also attended workshops, one most notably with Maxine Thomas, a very talented and inspiring folk artist. After several years, I started up my own studio called ‘Lavender Lane Folk Art Painting’ where I taught classes and painted to my heart’s content.

In 2000 my husband and I moved from Alberta, Canada to Wisconsin. In order to meet people and get out of the house I took stained glass classes along with several other crafty type classes. It was at this time I discovered the joy of building and decorating dollhouses and amassed quite a collection. It was at this point I decided to sell a few of the ones I’d made and so I started up my Etsy shop, Plume Poppy Designs.

The thing I enjoy most about being a crafty artist is the diversity of projects that one can work with. I enjoy decorative painting, mixed media, paper crafts (such as the gazing stars, rosettes, and pinwheels you’ll find in my Etsy shop), designing with Creative Paperclay (the two heart canvasses were designed with this medium) and finding or coming up with new ideas that inspire and get the creative juices flowing. Time spent in the studio, is time well spent!

Being an Etsy shop owner brings a sense of pride and accomplishment to each item I create. I know that an item I’ve made will find its way to a new home, whether it’s for themselves , a friend, or family member, and I want that item to be as perfect as I can make it. Every item is made with love and care so that when I post it on Etsy, those feelings go with it. The items in my Etsy shop aren’t mass produced, they’re made with two loving hands and are one-of-a-kind for that special one-of-a-kind person.

Day 7 - 2011 Stroll the Shops for Christmas - Sarah

Welcome to Day 7 of the Stroll!!

The Featured Artisan today is:

Sarah from WindscryDesigns

I am a retired Special Agent that worked for the US Army as a civilian doing computer forensics. I worked abroad in Europe, as well as in combat zones. While I was in Kosovo in 2003 I got arsenic poisoning (we're not sure exactly how) and I spent 40 + days in military hospitals while they tried to figure out what was wrong. The Arsenic caused a rare disorder in my bladder, pain all over and my digestive system stopped completely. At the end of it, I ended up with a bum bladder and Fibromyalgia. I worked for 5 more years with these injuries and then finally in 2008 my Fibro and other problems had progressed so much that I was too ill to continue working. I couldn't even drive a car by the time I stopped because my hands hurt too much to hold the wheel!

We relocated to California from where we were living in Virginia and I began the long process of coming to terms with a total halt in a high speed career, and fought for my Social Security Disability and Worker's Compensation. I felt very much like I was living in a cocoon for about 2 years, and then in 2009, shortly after winning my fight with Social Security, I got pregnant! This was great news, since we'd been trying for a second child for about 7 years. I had my second daughter (Rowan) in July of 2010. I know some people get the baby blues but for me it was totally the opposite. I felt like I blossomed. I was back in the world and ready to do things that I'd wished I could do all of that time while I was in that demanding career track!

I began taking Jewelry classes and discovered that I had quite a knack for it, and had a great time making it. I also got serious about my crochet and have made a few really neat things, including a shawl which was included in an exhibit in Arcata, California.

I hope that you enjoy my work. My goal is to bring joy to myself and others, and to show other people with Fibromyalgia that there is a light at the end of the tunnel. There is a way to balance those meds and slow the pain down, and get some functionality in your life back! Not every day is pain free for me, but I've come a long way since 2008. Best of all, I have met a lot of new friends, some of whom have fibro too, but all of them are very suppportive and understanding.

from Eartopia - Paradise for your Ears

Michaela Cladingboel lives in Melbourne, Australia, with her Irish partner and their young son. She has always loved jewellery, but has had a particular passion for earrings. She started making beaded earrings for herself 2 years ago, and started Eartopia-Paradise for your ears when friends, colleagues and strangers began to comment on her creations. She specialises in Japanese Tensha bead earrings, and designs inspired by Ancient Rome and Greece (a range called Byzantine). The word 'Tensha' in Japanese translates roughly to the word 'transfer'. The beads are made by applying a decal to an acrylic bead. These are then sealed with an acrylic coating to protect the decal. All Eartopia designs come in either pierced or clip-on style. The Byzantine range is perfect for evening wear – delicate, sparkly and gorgeous.

Michaela loves the satisfaction of designing a piece and then seeing it come to fruition. She also loves the joy her pieces give to those who wear them – bringing Paradise to their ears!

Day 5 - Stroll the Shops for Christmas 2011 - Beckie & Paula

Do you have memories of Christmas shopping when you were a child? I do. I'd go with mom to shop for dad and with dad to shop for mom. I guess we must have waited until it was close to Christmas to shop, because the stores were very busy...and it almost always was snowing and blowing and cold. Of course it was before any Malls were around, so it meant bundling up to get out of the car...and loosening the coat and hat once we were in the store...and bundling up again to leave the store. It meant red noses, cold fingers and a nice cup of hot cocoa when we returned home.

While all of that seemed nice at the time, I now enjoy shopping from the comfort of my home, at my computer. I can have my favorite beverage, my favorite Holiday songs playing, a lit Christmas tree next to me...and shop in my sweats or PJ's. And I don't have to lug any gifts home, I can have them all delivered and the delivery man will bring them and put them inside my door for me!!! :)

My name is Beckie Daugherty. I've been making jewelry and french beaded flowers off and on for about 8 years. What started out as a hobby has blossomed into a tiny little one-woman business that I am proud to call my own. I am married (which is a full time job!) and I also work outside the home. Creating is my stress relief and I make new pieces when my budget and schedule allow. Here's Sherri Stokey...

I’ve been doing crafts of one kind or another ever since I can remember. One of my earliest memories is of my grandmother sitting me at a table in her ceramic shop and letting me paint a little squirrel figurine! Over the years I’ve tried everything from cross stitch to stained glass to cake decorating (and just for the record, I stink at sewing and knitting).

I’ve always been interested in jewelry, so it seemed a natural progression to try my hand at it. I dusted off the macramé knotting skills I’d learned as a youngster making plant hangers and put them to use with new colored nylon cords and seed beads. An obsession was born! I’ve since branched out into bead embroidery and bead weaving and I even dabble a bit with metals. I’m constantly tinkering, but I always go back to the macramé. First, let's meet Debi Auger, from Designs by Debi.

Hi! I'm Debi... the jewelry designer behind Designs by Debi. I'm an Eskie Mom, to my 12 year old American Eskimo named Niko, a New England Patriots fan and entrepreneur.

I started designing jewelry in 2006 and am self-taught. It all began because I like bangle-style bracelets and wanted beaded bangles. I couldn’t find what I wanted so I decided to see if I could make them myself. A bead obsession quickly developed, along with a whole lot of jewelry! And Now, we meet Faye, from Ye Olde Chandler!

Why Ye Olde Chandler? In medieval days a candle manufacturer was known as a chandler, and Lesli being a medieval buff Ye Olde Chandler seemed to be a natural name for our business.

We are a mother and daughter team living in Texas, Faye and Lesli, who began making a small assortment of candles in Lesli's kitchen during lunch breaks in 2004. We quickly grew to offering over 80 scents, added handmade soap, and branched out onto the internet! We like that our products have that natural quality and that soy wax not only burns cleaner but supports American farmers.

How or why did we start our business?

We always enjoyed going to craft malls and antique stores together. One day while we were browsing one such shop we noticed a few different candle kiosks. After looking over the products, I'm not sure who said it first, but one of us mentioned that we could make our own, save money and probably make them better than the ones we'd been looking at. It all kind of built from there! All of our candle and soap products are handmade by the two of us.

We hand pour container candles, votives and wax melts as well as many varieties of soap. We also occasionally have special, limited stock items such as tart burners and crock candles.

Lesli's favorite product to make is soap, so she specializes in those products. She also has a special place in her heart for Lemon Pucker candles as that was the first scent we ever made and it always brings back happy memories. Faye specializes in candles and scent development and is always on the lookout for new scents to add to our collection.

I am the Beth part of Gemworks by Beth.

I work from home since I had to retire due to chronic Rheumatoid Arthritis. I consider myself handi-capable, in spite of my setbacks. I look forward to each day and do my best to make it a good one!

All my creations are one-of-a-kind (OOAK). I take great pride in creating beautiful OOAK jewelry using only quality gemstones, specialty beads, and use only the best of materials in each creation. I've love seeing the looks of appreciation when I've sold someone my jewelry at a craft fair, by special order, or receive a thank you note from them.

My love for art and all things creative dates all the way back to childhood. Through the years, I have dabbled in all areas of art. Many times, art was my escape, and secret place. I love how creating can take you away, far from the hustle and bustle of life, even if just for a moment.

In 1999, I took a beginner beading class at my local bead shop. I remember the wonderful feeling of watching my ideas and inspirations come to life through beautiful gemstones, glass beads, and metals, in the form of jewelry. It was such an incredible feeling, and I was hooked!

As a full-time graphic designer, there was very little spare time to allow for my creating. That would soon change. At the end of 2009, my company decided to lay of the entire art department, and I found myself unemployed, and at a crossroads in my life.

After much time in prayer, deep thought, and soul searching, I knew this was it. I had been given my big chance to pursue my dream of jewelry making and designing full-time. I would call my jewelry designs eclectic and quirky, as my art style is naturally drawn to those areas, and comes out in my creations. I believe that jewelry should be fun, and not only look pretty, but bring a smile to your face, and a wonderful memory to your heart. There’s enough serious in the world, we all need to add a little spark of joy and smile to our lives, so whatever I can do in some small way through my jewelry, I will contribute.

I have always enjoyed keeping busy and I've always been quite crafty...so why not share some of my God-given talent with others. I am an SRAJD (Self Representing Artist Jewelry Designer) Member #2972 - and I LOVE Designing and Making my own HandMade Jewelry, Rosaries and Crocheted Items. While shopping for beads to make all of my "Pretties", I decided I'd order extras and share them with you in my Czech Bead and Pearl Shop, too! After teaching myself to Crochet a couple of years ago, I've kept myself busy making afghans, hats, scarves, mittens and Prayer Shawls - then decided to include all of them in a section in my Studio of my Crochet Shop, along with Afghan Crochet Patterns! I've sewn for the better part of my life and love it...making Wedding Gowns to Window Treatments and everything in between…so it only figures that there would be patterns and fabric in my Sewing Shop, too!

Now that I’m retired from my Interior Design Job, I can enjoy my time working with color, fabrics and other mediums while creating beautiful things and re-decorating my home. I love to cook and bake and entertain - especially candle-lit dinners, brunches and Tea Parties!

A Friday Update...

As you can see, I've been busy...and probably will continue to be busy for a while longer.

I've changed my Blog around a bit...both to keep it current and interesting...and to continue taking it in the direction of my Business. With that said, I don't plan to only talk about business. I want to continue sharing Recipes "From my Kitchen" and an occasional "Home Tour".

The Left Side-Bar is About Me (personal and business) and the Right Side-Bar is about Friends, Fellow Artisans, Jewelry Designers and Lampwork Artists (Links to them and their Blogs that I follow).

It seems it was just Spring...and now Summer is nearly over! This summer has flown by. Between the heat and the humidity, I haven't spent much time outside on the patio swing, with the pups at all. Normally, we would spend the better portion of the day outside. I would take my crochet or beads out there...and work all day. Then I'd get the grill out and cook outside - but not this year.

My ArtFire Studio is progressing nicely. I want to thank everyone who has visited my shops and also thank the ones who have made purchases.

A mother was concerned about her kindergarten son walking to school. He didn't want his mother to walk with him. She wanted to give him the feeling that he had some independence but yet know that he was safe. So she had an idea of how to handle it. She asked a neighbor if she would please follow him to school in the mornings, staying at a distance, so he probably wouldn't notice her. She said that since she was up early with her toddler anyway, it would be a good way for them to get some exercise as well, so she agreed.

The next school day, the neighbor and her little girl set out following behind Timmy as he walked to school with another neighbor girl he knew. She did this for the whole week.

As the two walked and chatted, kicking stones and twigs, Timmy's little friend noticed the same lady was following them as she seemed to do every day all week. Finally she said to Timmy, 'Have you noticed that lady following us to school all week? Do you know her?' Timmy nonchalantly replied, 'Yeah, I know who she is.' The little girl said, 'Well, who is she?' 'That's just Shirley Goodnest,' Timmy replied, 'and her daughter Marcy.'

'Shirley Goodnest? Who is she and why is she following us?'

'Well,' Timmy explained, 'every night my Mum makes me say the 23rd Psalm with my prayers, 'cuz she worries about me so much. And in the Psalm, it says, ' Shirley Goodnest and Marcy shall follow me all the days of my life', so I guess I'll just have to get used to it!'

The Lord bless you and keep you; the Lord make His face shine upon you and be gracious unto you; the Lord lift up His countenance upon you and give you peace. And Shirley Goodnest and Marcy be with you today and always.

For as long as I remember, I've loved jewelry. The fancier, more old-fashioned, almost Victorian look has always held an attraction for me. (I loved the movie Somewhere In Time with Jane Seymour and Christopher Reeve!)

So...it isn't surprising that alot of my jewelry has that aire about it. I've been an Interior Designer for a few decades now...and I guess that is where my sense of "balance" in my jewelry comes from. I love to put beautiful lampwork beads, crystals and pearls together with heavier and larger Antique Brass bead caps. (That also carries over into my Sterling Silver Jewelry, with beads and anything else I make.)

Today I have a couple of my latest pieces of Jewelry to share with you. They were created with the beautiful Lampwork Beads from Bastille Bleu Lampwork. She is a creative artist!!

These pieces are called Bastille African Violet Lampwork Necklace & Earrings. (forgive the Chantilly Gems in the name of the necklace in the photo below - must change that)

Antique Brass chain with Swarovski crystals strung from it, large beadcaps and smaller Vintaj brand beadcaps, large brass ring and Swarovski Crystals...along with the African Violet Lampwork bead and it's companion Lampwork bead, surrounded by the Black Jet Crystals...are only the start to this gorgeous necklace.

I've called it Wooly Rainbow, because of the sugary consistancy & color variation of the Lampwork Beads. To accent the color variations, I've selected Swarovski Crystals and Pearls in several colors, shiney silver beadcaps and a toggle clasp.

Each piece of Jewelry has been designed and made by hand - by me, in my Home Studio.

Besides my hand-made Jewelry, I also have hand-crocheted items...and a Sewing section, as well.

BEFORE & AFTER ~ Our Living Room in the Old House...

What a BUSY couple of weeks I've had! I think alot of us have been busy!! Blog posts have slowed, Facebook has been quieter than usual. What with, The Royal Wedding, Easter, The changes I made to my Blog, and my 2 ArtFire Shops, The April Jewelry Design Challenge and Before & After Ideas

from the past -

with the updates for the future...I know what I was doing!!!

I decided it's time to get back on track!! I'm going to continue with my BEFORE & AFTER pictures and updates of our OLD HOUSE - not the house we currently live in.

Now...for a reminder of what that Living Room in the OLD HOUSE looked like, BEFORE I got my hands on it and worked MY Magic!!

Now...for the AFTER PHOTOS!!

Here it is...

What a change!! I loved the hardwood floors!! The new furniture placement, allowed for a gorgeous view out the large window...and allowed you to see the TV. Behind the Sectional along the wall with the closet door and front door...I now had an Entry Way and access to the Closet for coats and better yet...I was able to open the front door all the way!!!

The view out the front window photo...actually shows the old paint color, which was a green-tinted white. The week the FOR SALE sign went out, I painted. I loved the color - Lasso. It looked like chocolate milk...and warmed up the entire space.

You'll notice how uncluttered this room is, too. I like it that way - especially when the house is for sale.

REMINDER: Our house sold, in just under 2 months, with the closing at Christmas time...right after the market for selling houses "tanked" in 2005! At the time we listed our house...there were 10 others for sale in our tiny subdivision and several of them had been for sale since I moved to Michigan in April 2005 - mind you our closing was in December...and some of the houses still weren't sold!!!

A while ago, I shared a Make-Over

of my Console...in my Great Room.

Initially, this is what my Console looked like...

It was RED and BLACK...with a pretty Golden print on it when I bought it. And, I loved it!

I loved it......UNTIL......I got tired of the RED in my house.

Then...it got a RE-DO...and looked like this...

Initially, it didn't have the Fleur de Lis...and it kept calling for something...so I obliged with it...and the Rhinestone!! It's been in a few places in the house since it's RE-DO and is once again back here on this wall.

NOW...(come on, you all know what I'm going to say, don't you?)...I'm thinking about another RE-DO!!

I have several ideas in mind...just don't know which one I'll end up with. One thing I do know is...It will have to wait until temps warm up here, especially at night...and the water-logged state of things here dry out, cuz I will be doing whatever I decide outside in the garage!

April Jewelry Design Challenge

For the 2nd month in a row, I've entered Heather's Challenge...from Blissful Garden Beads! April's Challenge was to make a pair of Earrings, with a pair of her beads! Soon after receiving my pair of beads, I got to work on my Earrings.

They measure 2 3/4" in length and feature Heather's lovely Lampwork Beads and Air Blue Opal with a larger Olivine Swarovski Bicone tucked under them in a Vintaj Brand Beadcaps with a lovely Butterfly Charms attached.

Here was my Entry

the March Design Challenge!

It was to make a Necklace
using the focal bead
from Heather.

I happened to have an entire set of matching beads
and
I made a matching Charm Bracelet and pair of Earrings.

The set sold the same day as the Reveal!!

I was pleased...this was my FIRST Design Challenge ever!!
